Figure Drawing

What is the most interesting thing to a human being?  Another human being.  Figure drawing offers an ancient and direct way for an artist to connect with another human in a sensitive and receptive way.

I delight in drawing people -- clothed on the bus and nude in the studio, quick gesture studies to capture the form and stilled movement, and longer poses that allow me to reveal the face and other details.  From the time we wake up to the time we lay our heads on the pillow, our electronic devices insulate us from each other, and figure drawing brings together the simplest, most ancient of materials -- charcoal, paper, and a nude model -- to connect us, to sensitize us to each other.
