Osher Nature Journaling Class at CMU

I recently taught a Nature Journaling course for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.
Each week, my students and I found different pockets on campus where nature flourished, and made sketches in our nature journals.
Right on Forbes Avenue, we found this oasis of blooms that attracted a steady stream of pollinators, and inspired our art.

On the final week, we walked across the street to the gardens in front of the new Tepper School of Business.
The landscape architect who designed these gardens had a biologist's sense for supporting pollinators and an artist's eye for color and texture.

The next time you want to make sketches in your nature journal, check out the scenery around you.  You may be surprised by the abundance of nature even if you're in the city.

Happy Nature Journaling!
